Content Guidelines
The Story Hub is a community-driven platform for collaborative storytelling. These guidelines help ensure a safe, creative, and welcoming environment for all users.
Age Ratings
All stories must be appropriately rated. Choose the rating that best fits your content:
Everyone (E)
Suitable for all ages. Content is family-friendly with no violence, scary themes, or mature topics. Think children's books and light adventures.
Teen (T)
Suitable for ages 13+. May contain mild violence, mild language, and themes appropriate for teenagers. No explicit content. Think young adult novels.
Mature (M)
For adults 18+. May contain intense violence, strong language, and mature themes. Explicit sexual content is still prohibited. Think adult fiction and thrillers.
Prohibited Content
The following content is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate removal and potential account suspension:
- Explicit sexual content: Graphic sexual acts or pornographic material
- Child exploitation: Any content sexualizing minors or depicting harm to children
- Extreme violence: Gratuitous gore, torture porn, or violence without narrative purpose
- Hate speech: Content promoting discrimination, hatred, or violence against protected groups
- Harassment: Content targeting or harassing specific individuals
- Illegal activities: Detailed instructions for crimes, drug manufacturing, weapons creation, etc.
- Plagiarism: Copying content from other sources without permission or attribution
- Spam: Promotional content, advertisements, or repetitive low-quality submissions
- Misinformation: Deliberately false information presented as fact (fiction is fine!)
Best Practices for Writers
- Use content warnings: If your story contains potentially triggering content (violence, death, mental health themes), include appropriate warnings in your description.
- Rate accurately: Don't underrate mature content to reach a wider audience. This violates user trust and may expose inappropriate content to minors.
- Respect continuity: When adding branches to others' stories, try to maintain consistency with the established tone, characters, and world.
- Quality over quantity: Take time to proofread and edit. Well-written contributions are more likely to be read and appreciated.
- Credit inspirations: If your work is inspired by other stories or media, give credit where appropriate.
Community Conduct
- Be respectful: Treat other users with kindness and respect, even when disagreeing.
- Constructive feedback: When commenting on others' work, be constructive. Criticism should help improve, not tear down.
- No spoilers: When discussing stories, be mindful of spoilers. Use spoiler warnings when appropriate.
- Report, don't retaliate: If you encounter inappropriate content or behavior, report it rather than engaging.
- Respect privacy: Don't share personal information about yourself or others.
Intellectual Property
- Original content: Only submit content you have created yourself or have permission to use.
- Fan fiction: Fan fiction based on copyrighted works is permitted but must be clearly labeled as such. Commercial fan fiction is prohibited.
- AI-generated content: AI-assisted writing is permitted, but AI-generated content should be substantially edited and enhanced by a human author.
- Cover images: Only upload images you own or have rights to use. Don't use copyrighted artwork without permission.
Enforcement
Violations of these guidelines may result in:
- Content removal
- Warning notifications
- Temporary suspension
- Permanent account ban
- Legal action (in severe cases)
The severity of action depends on the nature and frequency of violations. We aim to educate first, but serious or repeated violations will be dealt with firmly.
Reporting Violations
If you encounter content that violates these guidelines, please report it using the report button on the content, or submit a support ticket with details. We review all reports promptly and take appropriate action.
These guidelines may be updated from time to time. Continued use of The Story Hub constitutes acceptance of the current guidelines.
